This is a reading and writing class targeting G7-9 students.
12-Week Essential Skills for Essay Writing Level 3 (Grade 7-9)
In this course, you will learn all of the techniques, knowledge, and strategies needed to master your writings in school as well as the essays on the standardized tests (SAT/ACT/AP). We will mainly introduce you to the 6 most common types of essay: Narrative, Descriptive, Compare & Contrast, Cause & Effect, Argumentative/Persuasive, Analytical.
This course will also integrate reading, grammar, vocab and critical thinking skills, by doing so it will provide students the opportunity to build a solid prerequisite reading, thinking, and writing skills to prepare for high school standardized testing and high school-level literature courses.
3W Critical Reading Level 3 (March 23, 2020)
The purpose of this course is to build and or reinforce fundamental reading skills and habits in order for students to become independent readers and thinkers. Specifically, students will practice analyzing basic plot elements, themes, and character development based on close readings and annotation of a novel. In other words, this course provides students the opportunity to build prerequisite reading, thinking, and writing skills to prepare for high school standardized testing and high school-level literature courses.
Advanced Critical Reading and Writing
The purpose of this course is to build and or reinforce fundamental reading skills and habits in order for students to become independent readers and thinkers. Specifically, students will practice analyzing basic plot elements, themes, and character development based on close readings and annotation of a novel. In other words, this course provides students the opportunity to build prerequisite reading, thinking, and writing skills to prepare for high school standardized testing and high school-level literature courses. During each of the 5 weekly courses, students will be responsible for reading 40-50 pages each week, developing reading questions, writing analytical paragraphs, and explaining their thought-process when analyzing a text. In doing so, students will learn basic academic language and skills surrounding literary analysis.
